Thousands evacuated as deadly floods swamp Europe
Mon Jun 3, 2013
Odd that Andy and John didn't translate "400 liters per square meter" into inches of rain for US audiences. Or not so odd, maybe. Like most Americans, they can't do arithmetic. That figure for rain translates to about 15 inches of rain. That's a LOT - even by Houston standards!
How and why to teach your kids to code
Sat Jun 1, 2013
As a learning tool, it's marvelous - almost like learning to read and write. One caution: earning a living coding is like earning a living writing. Can be done, certainly - thousands do. But not millions. There are, after all, millions of Indians, Malaysians, etc, who are bright, computer savy - and …

Seven injured in Missouri as trains collide, trigger highway bridge collapse
Sat May 25, 2013
To rephrase a quote from May 31st, 1916: "I say, Chatfield, these seems to be something wrong with our bridges today." Two bridges in two days is a bit excessive......
Are 'lone wolf' attacks the new path to terror?
Fri May 24, 2013
A sad situation. If Islam is not a religion of terror, as some may believe (and some of the verses lend credence to this), it is, unfortunately, the religion of many terrorists. The innocent are tarred with the same brush as the guilty. 'Ware lest the world turn against the entire Muslim community. …
New rocket fuel aims to help NASA 'go green'
Thu May 16, 2013
Interesting. They don't mention that it's potentially unstable, and has caused explosions. With even moderate care, these may be avoided - but it's not quite talcum powder. It also contains quite a bit of nitrogen, and the exhaust gases will contain nitrogen (mostly), but there will be some nitrogen …
Death toll from Bangladesh factory collapse passes 900
Thu May 9, 2013
This could be Bangladesh's Shirtwaist Factory fire (look it up). A huge tragedy that finally changed the workplace and safety laws. Too bad that that's what it takes.
New hospital data shows giant swings in prices
Wed May 8, 2013
Nonsense! It's RIDICULOUSLY more complicated! And that's the problem, I think...
Ammonium nitrate caused Texas blast, officials say
Tue May 7, 2013
What an amazing discovery! What's next - they'll find out that the sun rises every single day? Sheesh! Of course it's the ammonium nitrate, dummy.
Family of mom who was missing for 11 years has no plans to reunite with her
Fri May 3, 2013
It's just sad. She cracked - under pressure. Not sure what her problems were, but they were there. None of you been under extreme stress, don't know what to do, where to turn? No winners here. Just be glad it wasn't you.
